چکیده

Abstract Background The current practice for new-born eye examination by an Ophthalmologist in Malaysian hospitals is limited to only preterm new-borns, syndromic or ill infants. Healthy term new-borns are usually discharged without a thorough examination. This study aimed at determining the proportion and types of ocular abnormalities detected purportedly healthy new-borns. Method cross-sectional comprised 203 participants, all infants from Obstetrics Gynaecology ward Hospital Kuala Lumpur over 6 months period. list includes external examination, red reflex test, fundus imaging using wide-field digital retinal system (Phoenix Clinical ICON Paediatric Retinal Camera) trained Investigator. pathologies were documented. results compared correlated with similar studies published literature previously. Results Total 34% most common finding was haemorrhage 29.6% infants, which 53.3% occurred bilaterally. Spontaneous vaginal delivery (SVD) remained greatest risk factor has nearly 3.5 times higher developing Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS). There 6% increased likelihood every 1-min increment duration 2nd stage labour. Conclusion Universal screening realistically possible, safe, useful detecting posterior segment disorders. abnormality haemorrhage.

Efficacy of wide-field digital retinal imaging for retinopathy of prematurity screening.

BACKGROUND To evaluate the efficacy of wide-field digital retinal imaging for retinopathy of prematurity screening. DESIGN Retrospective study in a quaternary public neonatal intensive care unit. PARTICIPANTS A total of 108 premature infants screened for retinopathy of prematurity. METHODS Retrospective chart and photo review were performed on participants screened by both serial wide-fie...

Wide-field digital retinal imaging for retinopathy of prematurity screening in Australasia: a survey of practicing ophthalmologists.

PURPOSE To compare retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening experiences using binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy (BIO) and wide-field digital retinal imaging (WFDRI) at centers in Auckland, New Zealand, with those of other centers in Australasia. METHODS A web-based survey regarding methods of screening for ROP was distributed to ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand. RESULTS Thirt...

Assessment of vitreous haze using ultra-wide field retinal imaging

BACKGROUND Conventional fundus imaging has been used to assess vitreous haze (VH) in patients with uveitis. Ultra-wide field (UWF) retinal imaging that uses scanning laser technology has not been evaluated for the detection of VH. This pilot study evaluates the ability of UWF imaging in detecting VH. Patients with intermediate, posterior, or panuveitis were examined to assess the level of VH us...

Wide-field optical coherence tomography based microangiography for retinal imaging

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) allows for the evaluation of functional retinal vascular networks without a need for contrast dyes. For sophisticated monitoring and diagnosis of retinal diseases, OCTA capable of providing wide-field and high definition images of retinal vasculature in a single image is desirable. We report OCTA with motion tracking through an auxiliary real-time...

Screening neonatal jaundice based on the sclera color of the eye using digital photography.

A new screening technique for neonatal jaundice is proposed exploiting the yellow discoloration in the sclera. It involves taking digital photographs of newborn infants' eyes (n = 110) and processing the pixel colour values of the sclera to predict the total serum bilirubin (TSB) levels. This technique has linear and rank correlation coefficients of 0.75 and 0.72 (both p<0.01) with the measured...
